Aggression and Anger
De-escalation in the moment, prevention in the long term
Every human gets angry, it’s part of being alive, it’s pre-programmed in our DNA. Knowing that anger and aggression is human nature and thus part of the job when we care for humans, makes us look at this issue not as a ‘bad behaviour’ but as a form of communication that needs to be heard and addressed.
During this course, which can be delivered in one day or as a two day event, the delegates will look at their own anger triggers, and how it feels to be considered ‘inappropriate’. They will learn how chemicals are released when humans are forced into a corner and how flight or fight is the only way out, making way for delegates to see how managing the anger with respect is the viable way to calm.
This course is our most requested course, which says a lot about the level of anger management that is occurring in care homes. The staff just need to be trained on the art of calming people and understanding the pathway of anger communication. We discuss the ‘90 Minute Red Zone’ of de-escalation and move onto how to make an anger management activity group for residents who need to vent. This course has great feedback on the success of decreasing anger incidents.
Suitable for everyone.
