Course Description

Elderly people diagnosed with dementia may have underlying mental health disorders, often undiagnosed, which may be manifesting symptoms in the care home. It is difficult for staff to differentiate, which is dementia and which is not. This course outlines the most common mental health disorders and teaches delegates to notice the different presentation. NICE is advising that services should be configured to ensure that all elderly with mental health disorders receive excellent care and support, not just those with dementia. Subtle differences in approach by staff can make all the difference in compliance with care. The course covers depression, anxiety, bi-polar disorder, posttraumatic stress syndrome, schizophrenia, personality disorders, and autistic spectrum
