Course Description

Modern Activities in dementia care are interventional, using therapeutic recreation techniques to work with a team approach to meeting psycho-social needs and reduce distress. Gone are the days of just bingo, reminiscence and sing-alongs. This course looks at anger management techniques to allow elders with dementia to vent their frustrations; The course asks delegates to consider music as a communication tool and a comfort measure, noting the person-centred aspect of music, which is essential. We discuss pet therapy, doll therapy and the creation of ‘home’ activities for each individual. Finally we delve into biorhythms and the importance of honouring those genetic rhythms to reach an activity goal for clients.
